What are Online Resources?
Online Resources are useful, reliable and relevant databases that will help you find credible academic information, covering a wide range of subject areas. Some are general or cross-discipline, such as Gale Databases and Credo Reference, whilst others are specific to curriculum subject areas such as Westlaw or Info4Education.
Edinburgh College subscribes to a number of Online Resources providing you with access to current accurate and credible information. Through our Online Resources you can access encyclopedic and biographic content, peer-reviewed journals, magazine articles, national and international newspapers, reports, images, sounds, statistics, TV programmes, video tutorials, interactive content and more.
Many of our Online Resources are used directly by the industry for their credibility. This means that many of our resources have tailored, specialist information for specific subject areas and disciplines.

How can Online Resources help you?
Online Resources expand your field of research by providing access to a vast range of peer-reviewed or academic information that would often otherwise be harder to find or, in some cases, inaccessible through a search engine such as Google.
Why use our online resources as a regular part of your research?:
- Many Online Resources are only available to subscribers through your college library, giving access to information and sources that would otherwise be unavailable to you.
- Our Online Resources make it easy for you to find different sources of information from videos and images to statistics and journals.
- Some Online Resources are dedicated to a specific subject area, making related materials and topics of research more discoverable.
- Online Resources, such as Gale Databases, provide access to periodical publications including journals, magazines and local, national and international newspapers, all searchable in one place.
How do I access Online Resources?
You can find Online Resources for your specific area of study by visiting your Subject Research Guide.
Your Academic Digital Library Liaison can advise and support you in accessing and using online resources that are unfamiliar to you. You can find your ADLL’s name and contact details in your Subject Research Guide.
Some Online Resource material, and links to further online resources, will be available when searching eCore.
