What is Copyright?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During your studies, you will need to access, use, copy or download materials and information created by others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using images, films, sounds, text from websites, magazines or journals are all examples of using and engaging with works other people have made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a student it is important to know how and when you can, or cannot, use other people’s work. In the UK this is governed by UK Copyright law.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why is it important?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a student you should be able to consider the ethical and legal implications of using someone else\u2019s work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes being aware of the legal exceptions and licenses which allow you use other people\u2019s work as part of your studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a student you are also the Copyright owner of work you create, so it is important to know about your rights and responsibilities as a Copyright holder too.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Online Copyright Course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our Academic Library team have created an Online Copyright Course.<\/strong> In this course you will learn the basics of Copyright including what Copyright is and how it affects your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will find advice on how to comply with Copyright when creating your work, as well as guidance on using your work outside of College. The course is split into three sections: Copyright Basics, Copyright for Students and Copyright Beyond the Classroom. Each section contains a short activity, and at the end of the course you will find a Copyright quiz to bring your learning together. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
